Another India-flagged LPG vessel, Green Asha safely docked at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra on Thursday. The tanker reached Mumbai port after successfully crossing the Strait of Hormuz that remains closely guarded by Iran amid conflict with the United States.

Will It Ease Supply?

The vessel is carrying 15,400 tonnes of LPG and comes as a sign of relief at a time when global oil supplies remain affected due to the conflict in the Middle East. In a post on X, the government informed about the arrival of Green Asha, calling it a “significant milestone.” The vessel, its cargo, and crew members are all safe, the statement added.

It further stated that the arrival of this vessel highlights the ability of maritime operations to function amid complex geopolitical conditions, while ensuring supply of LPG to the country. JNPA also released a statement, noting, “Today, JNPA proudly welcomed Green Asha—an India-flagged LPG vessel that has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz, and has moored at JNPA’s liquid berth operated by BPCL-IOCL.”

Iran Announces Alternate Shipping Routes

Citing the risk of sea mines in the main zone of the waterway, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said ships should avoid the route. They also shared directions for safer entry and exit paths, urging everyone to comply with maritime safety instructions.

In a statement, IRGC said, "All ships intending to transit the Strait of Hormuz are hereby notified that in order to comply with the principles of maritime safety and to be protected from possible collisions with sea mines...they should take alternative routes for traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.”
