Jagran Correspondent | Gurugram: As incessant rainfall devastated parts of Gurugram on Friday, the district administration issued an advisory directing private sector employees to work from home on Saturday. Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, said the measure would help reduce traffic congestion and speed up waterlogging relief across the city.

Gurugram on Friday recorded approximately 60 mm of rainfall from 8 am to 5 pm Friday. The heavy rain caused waterlogging in many parts of the city. Traffic was disrupted due to waterlogging on major roads and intersections. Given the weather, waterlogging and traffic jams are expected at many locations today as well.

The officials said that the work-from-home advisory isn't just aimed at reducing traffic congestion. It's issued to expedite drainage, road repairs, and other restoration work in waterlogged areas. Reducing staff movement in offices will also help facilitate smoother relief and rescue operations.


The administration has appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and leave home in emergency situations, given the weather conditions. Corporate offices and private institutions have been advised to prioritise employee safety and promote work-from-home arrangements.

What Did The Gurugram Traffic Police Say?

Gurugram Traffic Police halted traffic at Hero Honda Chowk during peak hours to safely guide Kanwariyas carrying kanwars across a flooded road amid the 2026 Kanwar Yatra. Devotees in orange attire were wading through deep, murky floodwater with police in safety gear directing vehicles and escorting pilgrims on foot.

Sharing a post on X, the Gurugram Traffic Police said, "Peak hour. Peak devotion. GTP at Hero Honda Chowk halted traffic and walked Kanwariyas safely across. Every journey deserves safe passage."

In case of waterlogging or road-related problems, citizens can contact the GMDA helplines at 1800-180-1817/0124-2050808, NHAI at 1033/9311920617, Municipal Corporation Gurugram at 9821395354, and DRO at 9289790948. The district administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with relief and restoration work.

Gurugram is likely to witness a cloudy and humid day with intermittent light to moderate rainfall as monsoon conditions remain active. Rain is expected in short spells throughout the day, with a possibility of occasional heavy showers in some areas, which could lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
