Gurugram Rains: Heavy Showers Trigger Waterlogging Near Rajiv Chowk, Sector 15; More Rainfall Likely In Next Hours

Delhi-NCR woke up to heavy rain and pleasant weather on Saturday as another spell of showers and thunderstorms swept across the national capital and neighbouring areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across the region, including Gurugram.

Following the weather alert, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued a public advisory, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

In its latest nowcast warning, the IMD predicted heavy rainfall of more than 15 mm per hour, along with moderate thunderstorms and strong winds, over the next two to three hours.

The latest spell comes a day after heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. Strong winds accompanied the showers, with gusts reaching nearly 60 kmph in some areas. The rainfall triggered waterlogging and prolonged traffic congestion, causing inconvenience to commuters amid the Janmashtami festivities.

Gurugram Braces for More Rain as Waterlogging Spreads

Gurugram witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday morning following intermittent drizzle through the night. The sudden downpour quickly led to waterlogging in several parts of the city.

Areas including Rajiv Chowk in Old Gurugram, Sector 15, Sector 47, New Colony and Krishna Colony reported water accumulation. Several major roads were also affected, slowing traffic and causing difficulties for commuters.

With rainfall continuing, concerns have grown over flooding in low-lying areas and underpasses. Further heavy showers could worsen waterlogging and disrupt traffic at vulnerable locations across the city.

The DDMA has advised residents to remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary. Commuters have been urged to avoid waterlogged roads, underpasses and low-lying areas.

Residents have also been advised to maintain a safe distance from trees, utility poles and overhead power lines during thunderstorms. Authorities have warned people not to attempt to cross flooded roads, as fast-rising water can pose a serious threat to safety.
