Gujarat Weather: Heavy Rain Alert In Surat, Vadodara Till Aug 1; Schools, Colleges Closed In Bhavnagar Amid Red Alert

Gujarat Weather: Gujarat is experiencing intense rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places and isolated spells of extremely heavy rainfall across the state until August 1. The IMD has issued a red alert for the state through Friday.

According to IMD, a deep depression was centred over west-central Chhattisgarh and adjoining parts of Vidarbha and southeast Madhya Pradesh. The system is expected to move westwards and weaken into a depression over the next 12 hours before tracking west-northwestwards across Vidarbha and adjoining southern Madhya Pradesh.

With widespread rainfall forecast over the next three days, the state administration has stepped up preparedness. As a precautionary measure, all Anganwadis, schools and colleges in Bhavnagar district have been closed for Friday, and educational institutions will remain shut for students.

The IMD has warned of extremely to exceptionally heavy rainfall at isolated places across the Gujarat region on July 31.

An red alert has been issued for Valsad, Navsari, Tapi, Surat, Narmada, Vadodara and Chhota Udepur. Gandhinagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surendranagar, Rajkot and Amreli are also under an orange alert.

A yellow alert is in place for Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath and Kutch.

For August 1, the IMD has placed parts of Gujarat under a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds are also likely over Valsad, Navsari, Tapi, Surat, Narmada, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Anand, Ahmedabad, Botad and Bhavnagar.

An orange alert has been issued for Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Botad and Kutch, while Kheda, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Devbhumi Dwarka and Gir Somnath remain under a yellow alert.

For August 2, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Morbi and Kutch, where a yellow alert has been issued.

Meanwhile, the Surat administration has been placed on high alert as the weather system advances towards Gujarat. Authorities have intensified preparedness measures to minimise potential damage, while disaster response teams have been deployed at strategic locations to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
