The persistent fuel crisis resulting from the crisis in West Asia is again taking a heavy toll on household budgets, with the nationwide fuel prices once again being pushed northwards. On Monday night, oil companies announced an upward revision in the prices of petrol and diesel for the fifth day in a row.
With this upward revision, the price of petrol has been hiked by 87 paisa per litre and diesel by 91 paisa per litre, and came into effect at 6 am on Tuesday. Post the hike, petrol will be sold at Rs 98.63 per litre and diesel at Rs 91.93 per litre at Greater Noida.

The rise comes only days after a nearly Rs 3 per litre increase in both petrol and diesel prices that oil companies had announced on Friday, raising concern among commuters and vehicle owners. Not just liquids, the price of CNG has also seen an exorbitant surge, with CNG being priced at Rs 3 per kilogram on Friday, and another hike of Rs 1 per kilogram announced on Monday.
With this last hike, the CNG price has climbed to Rs 89.70 per kilogram at Greater Noida. This latest series of price increases is going to hurt the common man who depends on daily commute, and transport operators and small businesses alike.

More than 2000 taxis, auto-rickshaws and other transporters in Greater Noida are going to be affected by the latest hike. The transporters said the latest increase in operational costs is going to further increase the cost of transport and, thus, the price of everyday goods at local markets.
Ajay Kumar and Ram Prasad,auto-drivers, said they will have to incur about Rs 4000-Rs 5000 higher fuel costs every month with the continued hike over the last few days. They, however, lamented that while their costs would go up, the fares were not expected to go up so much, and they may lose passengers with higher fares.
