Greater Noida: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Into Borewell Pit Near Knowledge Park; Police Case Registered

Jagran Correspondent, Greater Noida | A 6-year-old boy, Avyaan Surya died after drowning in a rainwater-filled pit in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park area on Saturday. Avyaan, son of Kendriya Vidyalaya Vice Principal Siwan Yadav, was playing when the incident took place. The 15-foot-deep pit was dug for boring purposes near Kaladham Society in the Knowledge Park police station area.

There was neither any barricade nor any warning sign around the pit, locals said. The victim's family, alleging negligence on the part of Greater Noida Authority officials, reached the police station and submitted a petition demanding action against the culprits.

Avyaan was playing with other children near Kaladham Society late Saturday evening when he reached near the pit filled with rainwater and fell into it.

Dangerous Pit Dug Several Days Ago

Residents arrived upon hearing the cries of other children, and after much effort, he was pulled out and taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Upon receiving information about the accident, police arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and after completing a Panchnama, sent the body for post-mortem.

The family is inconsolable after the accident. Locals said the pit was dug several days ago for a borewell. It had filled with water, but no safety measures were taken.

Inspector-in-Charge Vinod Kumar said a case is being registered after receiving a written complaint from the victim's family. Based on the findings of the investigation, action will be taken against the accused.

No Lessons Learnt From Previous Incident

Earlier, Yuvraj Mehta died in Sector 150 after falling in a pit on January 17. At that time, the authorities claimed to have barricaded open pits across the city and conducted safety checks. Locals said while everything looks fine on paper, the reality is that people are suffering losses in life and property. They are now demanding strict action and accountability. They alleged that if those responsible had learned a lesson after Mehta's death, this tragedy could have been averted. The incident has sparked public outrage. They have demanded immediate barricading and security at all areas dug during construction.
