The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has given the government until Tuesday to withdraw criminal cases registered against protesters and organisers, warning that it will return to the streets and resume its agitation if the demand is not met.

The party said the issue was discussed in detail during the third round of talks with the government before concluding its 36-day sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar. According to CJP, both sides agreed that all FIRs registered against protesters and organisers across the country would be withdrawn and that no fresh cases would be filed against any organiser or protester in the future.

Government to Share Written Agreement by Tuesday: Ranka

Addressing a press conference alongside senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the party had submitted a draft agreement to Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. He said it was agreed that, after legal consultations, the government would share a written agreement by Tuesday.

In a statement posted on X, Ranka alleged that the government had committed a "complete breach" of the understanding reached on police action against protesters.

"We are observing a complete breach of the agreement regarding no police action against the protestors. Hundreds of students have been arrested in Bihar and Bengal, and hundreds are being surveilled/harrassed in Delhi and other states. Multiple reports are emerging in Delhi around detention of volunteers supporting protestors with logistics," the statement said.

Ranka said the party expects the Union ministers to honour their commitment and ensure that no protester is harassed. He warned that if the written agreement is not received by Tuesday and those arrested are not released, CJP will launch another round of protests.

Kapil Sibal Being Regularly Consulted: Ranka

Ranka said senior advocate Kapil Sibal has been regularly consulted to safeguard the youth-led movement from legal complications. Another CJP spokesperson, Sourav Das, said the organisation had anticipated that participants in the movement would be selectively targeted after the protests concluded.

Sibal announced that he would provide legal assistance to CJP students facing criminal cases. He said legal support would be extended wherever cases are registered against students and that a dedicated legal website would be launched to coordinate the effort.

He also announced a contribution of Rs 1 crore to strengthen the legal battle and appealed to others to extend financial support to the initiative.

Expressing concern over the treatment of protesters, Sibal said the Delhi Police could use facial recognition technology to identify and target participants. He also alleged that attempts could be made to give the entire issue a communal colour.

He urged all sections of society to ensure that students who participated in the movement are neither harassed nor targeted in any manner.

Meanwhile, the Bihar government on Monday announced that it would withdraw all cases registered against students involved in the agitation. The state also assured that no further legal action would be taken against those who participated in the protests.
