Indian Army: While celebration 77th Army Day at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre in Pune, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that no nation could develop without a strong military. In today's scenario, we can see that only that country survives an invader's aggression whose military is strong. India's military is modern as well as well-equipped. And it does not happen overnight.

India's military history is replete with many great generals who played a crucial role in strengthening the country's defence. These military grates gave the army a new direction through warfare, strategy, and leadership.

India's first Commander-in-Chief's Role

After the departure of the British military, which was very powerful at that time, India was left with a weak military force with outdated weapons. General KM Cariappa became India's first Commander-in-Chief after independence and took charge of reforming and reviving the military force. He laid the foundation for a disciplined and politically independent army. Gen Cariappa led the Indian Army in the 1947-48 war and successfully facilitated the transition from British to Indian leadership.

First CDS Gen Bipin Rawat

General Bipin Rawat was India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He worked to enhance jointness in operations, logistics, and training among the Army, Navy, and Air Force while optimising defence budgets and promoting indigenous equipment

Gen Sam Manekshaw's 1971 War Victory

General Sam Manekshaw is considered the key figure in India's victory in the 1971 war that changed the world's map, creating a new nation, Bangladesh. Under his leadership, India achieved a decisive victory against Pakistan.

Major General KS Thimayya

Major General KS Thimayya was a respected military commander. He played a key role in the Kashmir conflict in 1948 and later led the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus.

General K Sundarji

General K. Sundarji is considered the father of modern and mechanised warfare in India. He led Operation Blue Star against Khalistani militants and designed major military exercises such as Operation Brasstacks.

General S Padmanabhan demonstrated strategic leadership under tense circumstances. He led Operation Parakram, one of India's largest military deployments.
