Jagran Correspondent, Noida | A case has been filed against Ruchika Singh, an alleged salon employee living in Sector 168, Noida, for making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.
A zero FIR has been registered at the Expressway police station in Noida. According to the police, Ruchika made derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister during a protest on July 23, 2026. A complaint regarding this incident was filed in Delhi by Supreme Court advocate Smriti Singh, a resident of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, based on which the Noida police initiated action.
According to the complaint, the statement was made with the deliberate intent to incite ill-will and disturb public peace. The police have registered a case under Sections 352, 353(1), and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Singh in the complaint said that the position of Prime Minister represents the nation, and such remarks not only undermine the dignity of the position but also hurt public sentiments.
The complaint alleged that the woman's actions have insulted the dignity of the constitutional office of the Prime Minister. The remark against PM Modi was made with the deliberate intent to incite hatred, create communal or social tension, and disturb public peace, he added.
Police Launch An Investigation
The Expressway police launched an investigation into the matter. The accused has not yet been detained. According to police sources, further action will be taken based on the probe of video footage and available evidence.
The case is part of a series of incidents in which derogatory statements were made against individuals holding high constitutional positions on public platforms during the student protest.
What Legal Experts Said
Legal experts said that in such cases, relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) as well as sections of the Information Technology Act (IT) may be invoked. It is noteworthy that the police have begun recording video and witness statements in this case. The accused's social media accounts are also being investigated.
