West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday issued an urgent appeal to party candidates and counting agents, asking them not to leave counting centres amid ongoing vote counting, while alleging irregularities in the process.
“I request all counting agents and candidates not to leave the counting area. This is BJP’s plan,” Banerjee said in a message to party workers.

Her remarks come as early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party gaining ground in West Bengal, intensifying political tensions in the state. BJP is currently leading in around 192 seats, crossing the majority mark of 148. TMC is ahead on 94 seats.
Alleges delay, manipulation in early rounds
Banerjee claimed that results from initial rounds were being selectively shown.
“Since yesterday, I have been saying they will show their results first and ours later in the first two or three rounds,” she said, alleging that counting had been paused in several locations.
She further claimed discrepancies in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), stating that machines found in Kalyani did not match records, and alleged that results from 70-100 seats where her party is leading are not being reported. "They are feeding entirely false news," Banerjee said.
Charges against EC, central forces
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo accused the Election Commission of India of acting in favour of the BJP and alleged “forceful use of central forces” at multiple locations.
“The Election Commission is playing according to its will, along with the central forces,” she said.
Banerjee has repeatedly raised concerns over counting transparency and EVM handling in the lead-up to results day.
Calls for patience, expresses confidence
Despite the allegations, Banerjee urged party workers to remain calm and confident. “Our police are working under the central forces with complete submission. Therefore, I will tell all our counting agents and all our party workers not to be so upset. Even if three or four rounds have been counted, there are 14-18 rounds in total. You will win then. Wait and watch,” she said.
Encouraging her cadre, she added, “Don’t be afraid. We will fight like tiger cubs.”
Counting is underway across West Bengal as part of the multi-state election process, with early trends indicating a tight and politically charged contest. West Bengal went to the polls in two phases on April 23 and 29. After voting, the state witnessed intense political activity on the ground with party workers sitting outside strongrooms and reports of EVM tampering from certain booths.
