Soon after assuming office, Karnataka's new Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday announced a slew of major decisions, focusing on the capital Bengaluru and the state's youth.
Within hours of becoming Chief Minister, he announced schemes for roads, housing, employment, and youth. The biggest decision was regarding Bengaluru's ailing road infrastructure.
Shivakumar announced that Rs 2,000 crore will be spent to improve the roads in the IT hub, a move seen as an attempt to provide relief to the city, which has long been plagued by potholes and traffic jams.
One-time settlement scheme on illegal construction
The Chief Minister also made a major announcement regarding unauthorised constructions and buildings built in violation of regulations in Bengaluru. He said that a one-time settlement scheme will be introduced for properties up to 2,500 square feet.
DK Shivakumar said, "Many houses have been built in Bengaluru without proper planning. Due to court orders, there are difficulties in providing electricity and water connections to such buildings."
CM Shivakumar said that in many cases, a decision has also been taken to issue Completion Certificate (CC) and Occupancy Certificate (OC), which will provide relief to the people.
Preparation for 50,000 jobs for the youth
The new government has also prioritised employment. The Chief Minister stated that the recruitment process for 50,000 positions will begin soon in the state. He added that the recruitment process, notifications, and job calendar will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting.
CM Shivakumar also announced the launch of a 'Private Employment Exchange' to provide employment opportunities in the private sector. "Unemployed people looking for jobs should register with the government. We will talk to companies and make arrangements to provide them with the jobs they need," he added.
Students will get free bus passes
The government has also announced free bus passes for students, a move seen as a major step towards reducing education and travel costs.
