Delimitation Row:A fresh political controversy sparked after the centre proposed to link the Women Reservation Act with the delimitation exercise. The opposition leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, have alleged that the NDA government is doing "historic injustice" against the southern states. However, the centre has asserted that all the states will get fair representation, advising the opposition leaders to not spread misinformation.
With just a few days remaining in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Stalin on Wednesday chaired an emergency meeting with the party MPs. In his address to the party workers, the chief minister reportedly asked them to hold black flag protests across the state to oppose the proposal. In a post on X, Stalin claimed that the southern states were being "punished" for prioritising the nation's growth.

"Is punishment being meted out to Tamil Nadu and the southern states for the crime of striving for India's growth? The delimitation amendment bill that the Union BJP government plans to introduce in Parliament tomorrow is a massive historic injustice inflicted upon Tamil Nadu and the southern states," the DMK leader asserted.
Earlier on Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju refused such allegations by assuring that no state will face any discrimination, further urging all the parties to support the Women Reservation Act. "Some people are trying to mislead the South Indian States on Women Reservation by providing wrong Delimitation figures. There should be no politics in giving reservations to Women in Lok Sabha & Legislative Assemblies. All political parties are united for Nari Shakti," Rijiju stated in his post.

The centre is likely to increase the total number of Lok Sabha seats by 50 per cent across all states to address the concern raised by the southern states. While the opposition parties have alleged that linking the act to delimitation will delay the process, the centre pointed out that fair representation for women should be the goal. Apart from this, parties like the Samajwadi Party have sought a quota within a quota for fair representation of the women of the backward classes.
