Passengers on a Pune-bound SpiceJet flight at IGI Airport faced severe mismanagement and uncertainty for over six hours. Flight SG 939, scheduled to depart for Pune at 9:15 pm on July 27, was delayed for hours, leaving more than 180 passengers stranded at the airport until 3:30 am.
The boarding time for the flight was scheduled for 8:45 pm. Passengers alleged that despite being stranded at the airport for over six hours, no clear information was provided by the airline management, leading to anger among travellers. A heated argument broke out between SpiceJet employees and passengers at the airport, following which security personnel had to be called in.

Dear Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji,
SpiceJet Management, and Airport Authority of India,@narendramodi @DelhiAirport @DGCAIndia @igi_airport pic.twitter.com/7EIIXXNfvC
In his post, Ramesh Soni wrote, "We have been stranded for several hours. The plane has been undergoing maintenance for hours, raising questions about its safety. If the plane is unsafe, it should be cancelled and alternative arrangements should be made."
He also said that since he was suffering from diabetes, his health started deteriorating after waiting for such a long time without food and water.
Passengers alleged that even between 2:00 am and 3:30 am, they were not provided any clear update regarding the flight status. After the high-voltage drama that continued for more than six hours, passengers demanded a high-level investigation by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA into the alleged negligence.
Passengers claimed that despite being stranded for hours, the airline did not make arrangements for food and drinking water and also failed to maintain proper safety standards.
A SpiceJet spokesperson said that SpiceJet flight SG939 from Delhi to Pune on July 27, 2026, was initially delayed and later cancelled due to a technical fault. To minimise inconvenience, the airline operated an additional flight for all affected passengers. The spokesperson regretted the inconvenience caused to travellers.
