- Delhi Police clarifies Jantar Mantar open for protests.

Amid rumours circulating on social media claiming that Jantar Mantar has been closed for protests following the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demonstration, the Delhi Police has issued a clarification. In a post on its X handle, the police stated that Jantar Mantar continues to remain an active and authorised venue for peaceful protests.
According to the Supreme Court order and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Delhi Police, a maximum of 1,000 people can be allowed at Jantar Mantar.
Permission Given After Compliance With Terms, Conditions
Delhi Police said that this permission is given by the competent authority on formal application by the concerned organisers or persons, for which it is mandatory to follow the prescribed rules and conditions.
“Citizens are strongly advised not to believe or circulate unverified information and to rely strictly on official communications for accurate updates,” the Delhi Police concluded its message.
Rumors are circulating on social media alleging that Jantar Mantar has been locked or closed for protests. These claims are entirely false, misleading, and devoid of facts.

Meanwhile, retired Delhi Police personnel are planning to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar over what they allege were attacks on police officers during CJP protest in the national capital. The former officers have announced the demonstration to highlight their concerns and demand accountability for the alleged incidents. As per the Delhi Police, over 100 personnel were injured after they were attacked by some anti-social elements during the CJP protest.
On July 20, when the march turned violent, the police personnel resorted to lathicharge and tear gas shelling to disperse the crowd. The crowd resorted to stone pelting and vandalism. As many as 118 cops and over 60 protesters sustained injuries.
The Delhi Police Federation, which is a body of retired officials, has sought permission from the Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar for a one day dharna on July 31 at Jantar Mantar. If granted permission, the “ peaceful” and “non-violent” sit-in will take place from 11 am to 5 pm.
