- Feasibility studies initiated for IGI-Jewar airport tunnel.
- Project divided into two phases for comprehensive study.
- Multiple entry/exit points planned for public benefit.
Commuting between Noida International Airport and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is expected to become easier soon. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, along with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has initiated feasibility studies to explore constructing a tunnel connecting the two cities.
The proposed tunnel aims to significantly cut down travel time and reduce traffic congestion on existing road corridors. The authorities are planning to extend the tunnel to Gurugram in the future, NDTV reported.

A Breakdown Of The Project
The NHAI has divided the project into two phases for the feasibility studies:
Phase 1: Talkatora Stadium To Gurugram
In the first phase, a feasibility study has been initiated for a tunnel connecting Talkatora Stadium and Gurugram via IGI Airport.
Phase 2: Talkatora To Sarai Kale Khan
In the second phase, the study will explore extending this tunnel from Talkatora Stadium to Sarai Kale Khan.
At Sarai Kale Khan, the tunnel will link with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This will provide connectivity to the Noida International Airport via the Chandawali-Jewar link road.
Multiple Entry And Exit Points
A key highlight of the tunnel project is the multiple entry and exit points along the route. One of the primary entrances will be located near Talkatora Stadium, which is expected to directly benefit lakhs of residents in surrounding areas such as Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Rajendra Place, and Connaught Place.
A Timeline Of The Tunnel Project
Speaking to NDTV, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, said studies have been initiated to explore constructing a tunnel from Talkatora Stadium to Gurugram via IGI Airport.
However, NHAI sources stated the authority currently has no concrete plans on paper, as the project is still in its preliminary stages. Once the route alignment is finalised, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared, outlining construction costs, technical challenges, and timelines.
