Delhi Rains: Light rainfall lashed Delhi on late Tuesday night after hours of cloudy sky and thunders. Traffic was seen crawling in several areas during the rains.

The rainfall brought respite from scorching weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert in its nowcast on Tuesday evening. Prior to that an orange alert was issued for light to moderate rainfall today.

On Tuesday, winds from the northwest blew at speeds of 20 to 30 km per hour in many areas of the capital. Wind speeds of up to 41 km per hour were recorded in some places.

More rains likely in coming days

The weather department said that another change in weather is possible due to a western disturbance approaching northwest India on Thursday. Accordingly the department has also predicted light rain with thunderstorms in the capital on Friday and Saturday.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius.

The capital saw bright sunshine throughout the day on Sunday, causing a rise in temperature. the next day (Monday), the day was brighter till the noon, making the heat more intense. However, dark clouds gathered in the sky in the afternoon, and a strong wind started blowing before rain in the evening brought relief from the heat.

What's driving weather change?

In the past few days, north India has seen a change in the weather. This weather pattern change is because of a western disturbance over north Iran and the Caspian Sea region, accompanied by an active cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan.
