Delhi New EV Policy 2026: The Delhi government has approved the new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, which is proposed to be implemented from July 1, 2026. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision during a press conference on Monday, stating that the Cabinet has cleared the policy.

Calling it a landmark step for the national capital, the Chief Minister said the policy will remain in force until March 31, 2030. She added that the government is working to roll it out from July 1. 

With the introduction of this scheme, all pure electric vehicles will be offered an exemption of road tax and registration fee of 100 per cent. However, in the case of four-wheelers, the advantage of the scheme can be used for four-wheelers sold at ex-showroom price not exceeding Rs 30 Lakh.

How Much Subsidy Will Buyers Get?

According to the policy, registration of three-wheelers in Delhi will be done in electric form from January 1, 2027; similarly, it has been decided to register two-wheelers only in electric form from April 2028.

The subsidy structure for electric vehicles is as follows:

* Electric Two-Wheelers: Rs 30,000 in the first year, Rs 20,000 in the second year, and Rs 10,000 in the third year.

* Electric Auto-Rickshaws: Rs 50,000 in the first year, Rs 40,000 in the second year, and Rs 30,000 in the third year.

The government will also provide scrappage incentives for different vehicle categories.

Focus on Reducing Pollution

Giving information about the EV policy, Transport Commissioner Niharika Rai said that according to a study conducted on Delhi pollution in 2018, 33 per cent of the pollution was attributed to commercial vehicles and 67 per cent to two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

Large-Scale Expansion of Charging Infrastructure

The government will also significantly expand Delhi's EV charging network. In the first phase, charging stations will be set up along major roads across the city. Power distribution companies (Discoms) have been directed to facilitate private charging infrastructure for individuals. The policy also states that EVs receiving government subsidies cannot be registered in another state for three years.

Meanwhile, Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, "This policy will greatly contribute to reducing pollution in Delhi. The policy provides relief to two-wheelers, three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles.”

In the same sequence, Delhi Home and Energy Minister Ashish Sood said that opinions have been taken from top experts of the country to ensure that every issue in the new EV policy is worked upon seriously.

Key highlights of the new EV Policy 2026-

* Proposed to be implemented from July 1, 2026, after LG's approval, it will remain effective till March 31, 2030.

* The main objective of the policy is to make Delhi a pollution-free and clean transport capital by promoting zero-emission vehicles.

* Direct government investment of over Rs 7,000 crore over the next four years and overall benefits to citizens of approximately Rs 15,000 crore, including tax exemptions and EV infrastructure.
