Delhi's newly launched electric double-decker tourist bus, introduced to boost tourism, is struggling to attract enough passengers to cover its operational costs. Despite serving over 1,500 passengers since its launch, the service has seen lower-than-expected footfall.

In an effort to draw more tourists, the Transport Department has announced a significant reduction in ticket prices. Under the revised fare structure, ticket prices for adults have been reduced from Rs 500 to Rs 300, and for children from Rs 300 to Rs 200.

Over 1,500 Passengers Travelled On Double-Decker Tourist Bus

According to the latest data, a total of 1,540 passengers have travelled on the electric double-decker tourist bus as of June 12. A large proportion of commuters travelled during holidays and weekends.

Since the service began on February 28, the monthly breakdown includes:

February: 12 passengers (launch month)

March: 432 passengers

April: 372 passengers

May: 424 passengers

June (up to June 12): 300 passengers

A Look At Delhi's Double-Decker Tourist Bus Service

- The Transport Department currently operates this tourist bus service as a pilot project on two routes, with plans to expand to additional routes in the future, depending on public response.

- Weekday tours begin at Vijay Chowk and cover key landmarks in the Central Vista area, ending at the Prime Minister's Museum. Weekend tours begin from Dilli Haat, INA, and include the Change of Guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

- The route features major landmarks, including Rashtrapati Bhavan, Bharat Mandapam, the National War Memorial, the New Parliament House, Dilli Haat, and the Prime Minister's Museum.

- The Change of Guard Ceremony and the National War Memorial are the most popular destinations among tourists.

- The air-conditioned electric bus has a seating capacity of 63 passengers and features a trained tour escort who provides information about the information on the historical and cultural significance of the sites.
