Jagran Correspondent, South Delhi: Satya Niketan, which is now a prominent resident area, was developed as part of a rehabilitation initiative for slum dwellers. This area was established between 1965 and 1970, with families being provided plots measuring 60-65 square metres in exchange for their slum settlements.

With the opening of Delhi University's South Campus in the 1970s, the area began to change. Buildings that could barely accommodate three stories above ground level were now four- and five-story buildings.

Satya Niketan Turned To A Residential Area

These properties were granted freehold in 2011. Subsequently, construction and commercial activity increased rapidly. As a result, this residential area near DU South Campus became popular for commercial activities. It quickly became a hub for PG accommodation for students.

PG Business In Satya Niketan

Satya Niketan, being close to Delhi University's South Campus, has been a major student destination. Catering to the housing needs of the large number of out-of-state students, PG businesses have flourished here. Several companies, including Bloom Stay, Yash PG, Stanza, and Hostel Daze, have rented or leased local houses and buildings and converted them into PGs.

The area is also popular among young people for its budget-friendly cafes, restaurants, and street food. Connectivity is also convenient, as it's close to the Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro Station (Pink Line).

7 Dead In Satya Niketan Building Collapse

The death toll in the collapse incident rose to seven on Monday as rescue operations by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police entered day 2 to find those trapped under debris. The Delhi Fire Department received an alert about the collapse at around 1:30 pm on Sunday near Shiv Mandir in the Satya Niketan area, police said. The locality is home to a large student population, with many students staying in PG accommodations.
