Tamil Nadu: Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday announced that the party will get two cabinet portfolios in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government in Tamil Nadu.

The Congress, a major ally in the Chief Minister Vijay-led government, provided the necessary support after the TVK failed to reach the 118-seat majority in the 234-member assembly following the recent assembly elections.

'New History Is Being Written': Congress MP Manickam Tagore

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Congress MP Manickam Tagore said, "Before the 2026 elections, the DMK openly declared that Tamil Nadu would not accept a 'share in governance.' The people have now delivered their verdict. The people of Tamil Nadu have said that they want a share in governance."

He hailed the induction of the Congress into the Tamil Nadu cabinet as an 'emotional and historic moment'.

"A new history is being written. TVK leader Vijay, who had promised that alliance parties would always be given a share in power, has kept his word. Now, after 59 years, two Congress ministers wearing khadi have found a place in the cabinet. For thousands of Congress workers like me, this is an emotional and historic moment," he added.

Tagore also called for a shift toward a corruption-free administration, stating, "We must take Tamil Nadu from 36% commission politics to a corruption-free government. New government. New hope."

Tamil Nadu Government Formation

Launched just two years ago, Vijay's TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, winning 108 seats. Despite this historic win, it failed to reach the majority mark of 119, prompting the actor-turned-politician to seek allies.

The Congress, with its five seats, backed the TVK, and the seat tally reached 113. Later, regional parties such as the VCK, IUML, CPI, and CPI(M) joined hands with the TVK, helping it cross the 'magic mark'.

On May 7, Vijay took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The ceremony was attended by the Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi.
