Jagran Bureau, New Delhi: Amid chaotic situations sparked by the Parliament March of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly took charge to bring the situation back to normal.
Sitting at his office in Parliament House, Shah kept abreast of the situation and held lengthy consultations with ministers.
Meanwhile, at his office in Kartavya Bhavan, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan also held a meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner and Intelligence Bureau chief Mahesh Dixit to review the situation.
Amit Shah had a long discussion with Dharmendra Pradhan
Amit Shah held a meeting with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whose resignation is among the key demands of the CJP, for nearly four hours in his office. The CJP had launched a protest at Jantar Mantar with the primary demand for Pradhan's resignation over the NEET paper leak.
The government, on the other hand, entrusted Health Minister JP Nadda to hold meetings with a two-member CJP delegation of Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
Sharing the details of the meeting, Nadda posted on X that for the first time, protestors established contact with the government.
This opened a channel of dialogue and blunted the opposition's accusations of the government's stubbornness in refusing to even engage with the protesters.
Police instructed to avoid strict action against youth
Amit Shah not only prevented the police from taking harsh action against the protesting youth, but also ensured that the law and order situation did not deteriorate and spiral out of control.
As per the information, the protesters who reached the Parliament gates were dispersed with tear gas, but no action was taken against protesters elsewhere, except at the spots of scuffles with police personnel.
In view of the possibility of attempts to worsen the situation by spreading rumours during such protests, internet services were shut down in the entire area, but mobile calls were allowed to continue.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau chief Mahesh Dixit shared the intelligence with the Delhi Police Commissioner and directed him to take action accordingly.
Anurag Kumar, who became Delhi Police Commissioner three days ago, was himself a Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau and had worked there for 20 years.
What's next?
CJP has vowed to continue the protest until the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Sonam Wangchuk, on the other hand, has asserted to continue his hunger strike until protestors are granted permission to meet MPs in Parliament and express their demands.
On the government's front, Nadda has assured the CJP delegation to take their three demands to the government. Although he didn't commit to the demands made by CJP, a few rounds of talks are expected to take place.
