Days after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called off its protest at Jantar Mantar, following assurance from the government on all its demands, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das on Monday called upon Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh to "honour the assurance" and ensure the release of those detained during the students' protest in Delhi and other parts of the country.

In a post on X, Saurav Das claimed that the CJP has received multiple reports of students and other protesters being detained or arrested in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar and urged the Centre to ensure their immediate release and withdrawal of FIRs.

"Such breach of trust will be completely unacceptable to the youth," Das wrote, asserting that the CJP called off its protest after assurance from the Centre that no punitive action would be taken against protesters.

"We are deeply concerned by multiple reports reaching us of students and other protestors being targeted, detained, or arrested by various state agencies, particularly in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar. The Cockroach Janta Party had called off its nationwide protest only after the Government of India assured us that no punitive action would be taken against any protestor, either now or in the future, in any BJP-ruled or NDA-ruled states. The reports emerging from these states are therefore a matter of grave concern," he wrote on X.

Das further supported the protesters and assured them of all legal support. "First, we wish to assure every protestor that our legal team is already coordinating with brilliant lawyers in the concerned states to secure the release of those detained and to extend all possible legal assistance. This has been happening from Day 1," he said.

"Second, we call upon the Government of India, particularly @JPNadda ji and @DrJitendraSingh ji, to immediately honour the assurance given to us by ensuring the release of those detained and by directing that no coercive or retaliatory action is taken against any protestor anywhere in the country. The FIRs registered ought to be withdrawn too," he wrote.

Das also reminded the Centre of its commitment to provide a written guarantee, saying, "The Government of India is also reminded of its commitment to furnish us the written guarantee in this regard by tomorrow, Tuesday, 28 July 2026."

CJP Protest

The CJP called off its protest on Saturday after the government accepted all their demands after three rounds of meetings. In its demand charter, the CJP demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rs 1 crore compensation to all NEET suicide victims and withdrawal of cases and FIRs filed against the protesters in Delhi and other parts of the country.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation on Saturday. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was given additional charge of the Education Ministry following Pradhan's resignation. Meanwhile, the Centre has also formed a high-powered task force on examination reforms under the leadership of technology expert Nandan Nilekani.

The task force will suggest measures to revamp examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), with a focus on technology integration and structural reforms. The other members of the high-powered task force include former ISRO Chairman S Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
