Naiduniya Correspondent, Janjgir-Champa | A young woman's decision on the wedding venue in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district is being discussed throughout the area. When the groom was found drunk during the wedding rituals, the bride refused to marry him.
Her courageous move was not only praised by locals but also honoured by police officers. The groom was unable to stand properly due to intoxication.
According to reports, 22-year-old Muskan Pradhan, a resident of Kosmanda village, was scheduled to marry 24-year-old Sant Ram of Khokhara village on June 23. As scheduled, the wedding procession arrived in Kosmanda around 4 pm, and wedding preparations began. Meanwhile, the bride's family discovered that the groom was heavily intoxicated and unable to even stand properly. Seeing the groom's condition, she immediately refused to marry.

Seeing the groom's condition, Muskan immediately refused to marry, triggering chaos at the wedding venue. This decision created tension between both parties, which quickly escalated, and an altercation broke out between those present at there.
Police Rush To Site And Control Situation
Receiving information about the situation escalating, Champa police arrived at the scene. A police team led by Station House Officer Ashok Vaishnav intervened, calming the situation and speaking with both parties.
The woman's family claimed that the groom was drunk even at the engagement. According to the police, Muskan stated that the groom was drunk even at the engagement. He had been warned at the time and had promised to quit drinking. Despite this, he consumed wine again on the wedding day, leading to this drastic decision.
During the altercation, a scuffle broke out between some of the men accompanying the wedding procession and the bride's family. Some people suffered minor injuries in the incident and were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Groom Side Agrees To Pay Compensation
According to the family, the matter was later resolved through negotiations, and the groom's side agreed to pay approximately Rs 3 lakh to compensate for the expenses incurred in the wedding preparations. Muskan, who studied up to the tenth grade, said she wants to continue her studies and become self-reliant in life. Her decision is being seen as an example of women's empowerment.

On Thursday, Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Pandey honoured Muskan in the presence of social workers and women's representatives. Police officials said that this incident sends a strong message to society against the evils of drug abuse and underlines the importance of responsibility and respect in a relationship as important as marriage.
