Naidunia Correspondent, Ambikapur: Police on Friday arrested a man, identified as Jitendra Sarathi, for allegedly assaulting his wife over suspicions regarding her character within the Patna police station area of Koriya district. The accused is a resident of Runiyadih village in the Surajpur district.

The police initially registered an FIR under sections 115(2), 351(2), and 85 of the legal code. However, due to intense public pressure after a video surfaced confirming the brutality against the victim, Section 124 was added to the case. A conviction under this section carries a penalty of up to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Mobile Confiscated, Accused Confesses To Crime

Speaking to Naidunia, Patna Police Station In-charge Pramod Pandey stated that an FIR was immediately registered based on the victim's parents complaint, and an investigation was initiated. Meanwhile, a video clip of the horrific incident, filmed by the accused, surfaced on social media and clearly showed the brutality inflicted on the victim.

Following this, the accused was arrested on the instructions of senior officers. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime, and the police have confiscated his mobile phone.

20-Year Love Marriage Ends In Horrific Brutality

The couple had a love marriage 20 years ago and have four children. For the past 11 months, they had disputes regarding her character and Sarathi had been living at his in-laws' residence.

On June 14, the victim went to the home of an man who had helped her through financial difficulties. Sarathi arrived at the location with their four children, where he tore the victim's clothes, beat her in front of the children, cut her hair, and shaved her head using grease and Mobil oil. He then smeared her face and body with soot, had a child urinate on her, and forced her to drink urine from a glass.

Sarathi filmed the entire incident on his phone while inciting her to commit suicide. An FIR was immediately registered based on the victim's parent complaint, and an investigation was initiated.
