Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport: Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be impacted for nearly six hours on May 7 due to scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance work.
In an advisory, the airport announced that both runways will remain closed from 11 am to 5 pm on May 7 for essential repair and maintenance activities ahead of the monsoon season.
"On 7 May, both runways (Primary 09/27 and Secondary 14/32) at Mumbai Airport will be temporarily non-operational between 11:00 hrs and 17:00 hrs due to scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work. This planned activity is essential to ensure passenger safety and maintain efficient airport operations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation," Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) posted on X.

According to the airport operator, preparations for this maintenance exercise began six months in advance. Airlines were notified early to allow them sufficient time to adjust flight schedules and minimize inconvenience for passengers.
CSMIA stated that the annual pre-monsoon maintenance is crucial for preserving the longevity of its extensive airside infrastructure, which covers nearly 1,033 acres. During the process, specialists will conduct detailed inspections of runway surfaces to identify cracks, structural damage, and signs of wear and tear. Weak points that could potentially affect aircraft movement will be addressed through preventive repairs to ensure safe take-offs and landings during the rainy season.
In addition to runway inspections, teams will assess drainage systems to prevent waterlogging during heavy rains. Advanced machinery and modern scanning equipment will be deployed to monitor runway conditions and ensure maintenance is completed efficiently.
"CSMIA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) also leverages modern machinery and exhaustive planning to monitor the entire maintenance process, ensuring timely execution within the designated six-hour window," the airport said in a release.

This routine maintenance is conducted every year before the monsoon to uphold runway safety standards and ensure seamless flight operations. A similar post-monsoon maintenance exercise is typically carried out between October and November, during which teams inspect and repair surface damage caused by seasonal rainfall.
