Jagran Correspondent, Dehradun | A teacher in the Harrawala area, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, was found dead. Her mother alleged that she was harassed by her in-laws after being insulted and blamed for every misfortune in the family, including her father-in-law's illness.

Mother Files Dowry Case

Based on the deceased's mother's allegations, the police have registered a dowry murder case against her husband, Saurabh Khatri, a private secretary at the Secretariat, her mother-in-law, and her sister-in-law. Married just eight months ago, the newlywed would periodically inform their parents of the harassment.

After the incident, the body was taken to the hospital without informing the police. Currently, the police will question the accused husband, who was attending the funeral rites for his father's death on July 26, after the rituals are completed. The investigation of the case has been handed over to the CO.

According to the police, Seema Kandari, a resident of Srikot, Srinagar (Pauri Garhwal), filed a complaint at the Doiwala police station stating that her daughter, Srishti Kandari (Khatri), was married to Saurabh Khatri, a resident of Harrawala, in November 2025.

Mother Levels Serious Allegations On Daughter's In-Laws

Srishti was a teacher at the Government Inter College, Rigoli (Malli), located in the Kirtinagar development block of Tehri Garhwal. Seema stated that since her marriage, Srishti had been subjected to mental and physical torture for dowry demands. She was insulted, called unlucky, and blamed for family misfortunes, including her father-in-law's illness and death, Seema claimed.

Family members alleged that Srishti was murdered on July 29, in which her husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and other relatives were implicated. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against husband Saurabh Khatri, mother-in-law Parveena Devi, and sister-in-law Charu under various sections, including dowry death.

What Police Said

Doiwala Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Rakesh Gusain said that the case is being investigated. The accused Saurabh is currently performing the last rites after his father's death. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report, forensic evidence, and other available facts. Police said the investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and final conclusions will be reached only after the investigation is complete. Since the case involves a newly married woman, the investigation has been handed over to CO Vandana Verma.

Police Not Informed Of The Woman's Death

According to police, the accused took Srishti to a private hospital in Jogiwala on the morning of July 29, where she died. The accused did not inform the police of the incident.

A death memo was sent from the hospital to the Jogiwala police station. Since the case was in the Harrawala area, the Jogiwala police station informed the Harrawala police station. The police reached the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem.
