Jagran correspondent, Bareilly: In a chaotic wedding turn of events, the bride eloped with her lover the night before the ceremony. Things took an even stranger turn when the groom, seated in front of the bride’s younger sister, was confronted by her own lover, leading to massive confusion. The situation escalated so severely that, instead of a nikah ceremony, an FIR had to be filed.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Bitthri area, guests who had arrived at a marriage hall for a wedding ended up being beaten rather than served food. Following the chaos, gunfire was reported, which disrupted traffic on the nearby road for a significant period.

What Happened?

A wedding was scheduled on Saturday at a banquet hall on the Shahjahanpur-Bareilly Road in the Bitthri area. The groom arrived with his wedding procession, and members of the bride’s family were also present.

When it was time for the nikah ceremony, the groom and his family were waiting for the bride. However, the bride had already fled on Friday night, taking the jewelry she was supposed to wear for the wedding.

The bride’s family then persuaded her younger daughter to sit in place of the bride. Upon seeing a different girl being seated, the groom objected.
