Jagran Bureau, New Delhi: Two people died while one was injured after a speeding BMW car collided with a divider on the Mumbai-Vadodara Highway in Mumbai's Badlapur during the wee hours on Sunday.

The hit was so intense that the car overturned multiple times and was completely destroyed, and its parts were scattered on the road.

The accident occurred around 4 AM on Sunday on a stretch of the Mumbai-Vadodara highway near Badlapur, when the car was returning from Titwala to Badlapur. According to the information, the driver lost control, after which the vehicle overturned on the divider.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident was so severe that parts of the victims' bodies were found scattered several meters away. The bodies have been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Badlapur police station told news agency PTI, "A case of death in the accident has been registered, and further investigation is underway."

A forensic team was called to the site, which collected evidence. Police are investigating all aspects of the case, including the possibility of alcohol consumption.

The deceased have been identified as Yogesh Dighe (26) and Rikeba Jacob (24). Both were residents of Badlapur. Another occupant, identified as Anand, suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thane, the officials said.

What does preliminary probe suggest?

According to a preliminary investigation, the car was allegedly at high speed when it hit the road divider, causing the driver to lose control. The car then overturned multiple times before coming to a halt, police said.

Soon after the accident, residents and motorists rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise and alerted the authorities.
