Ahead of the upcoming state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new national team under party president Nitin Nabin. In an official notification, the BJP unveiled a new organisational team comprising a mix of experienced leaders and younger faces, with several key appointments made ahead of the crucial state polls.

One of the biggest highlights of the new team is the return of former Union minister Smriti Irani to a key organisational role. Irani has been appointed as a national general secretary of the BJP. Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje is another prominent name in the new team.

Smriti Irani have been appointed as national general secretary, while Piyush Goyal has been named national treasurer. Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal are the only two national general secretaries that the BJP has retained in its new team.

The BJP has brought in many new faces, including Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Sandeep Pathak and Manoj Tigga, in its team of 16 national secretaries from different states.

Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Baijayant Jay Panda and Rekha Verma have been retained as vice presidents.

The new appointments also reflect an increased focus on women’s representation within the party’s top organisational structure. Six of the 13 national vice presidents are women. The BJP has also appointed four women as national secretaries and a woman as a national general secretary. In addition, two leaders from the Muslim community have been included in the new team.

Sandeep Pathak, who recently quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been appointed national secretary. Sambit Patra has been given responsibility for coordinating the party’s organisational affairs in the Northeast.

The major announcement comes almost six months after Nitin Nabin became party chief. Meanwhile, Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh has been named as Social Media Convenor who has replaced Amit Malviya As IT Cell Chief.

Nitin Nabin's new team will face a major test in 2027 when several states, including Uttar Pradesh, go to the polls. The changes in the party structure could also pave the way for a likely reshuffle in the Union Cabinet.
