Bihar Cabinet Expansion: Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary's new cabinet in Bihar has clearly indicated that the upcoming elections will be fought on the basis of social equations. An attempt has been made to strike a balance between OBC, EBC, Dalit, and upper caste communities within the cabinet. The new government appears to be focusing heavily on the Economically Backward Class (EBC) and backward classes. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal United (JDU) have allocated significant portions of their quotas to these classes.
Samrat Chaudhary himself comes from the Koeri community, while the Bhumihar and Yadav communities are represented in the deputy CM position. Political analysts see this as part of Bihar's larger caste equation.
A total of 32 ministers took oath on Thursday, including 15 from BJP, 13 from JDU, 2 from LJP, 1 from HAM and 1 from RLM.
BJP Plays Big Bet On EBC-OBC Card
The BJP has prioritised OBC and EBC leaders in its team. Leaders like Ram Kripal Yadav, Kedar Gupta, Rama Nishad, Dilip Jaiswal, and Pramod Chandravanshi have been given opportunities.
Upper caste leaders like Vijay Kumar Sinha, Mithilesh Tiwari, and Sanjay Tiger have also found a place in the cabinet. From the Dalit community, Lakhendra Paswan and Nand Kishore Ram have been included.
Making Shreyasi Singh a minister as women's representation is also in discussion.
JDU Places Big Bet On Nishant Kumar
The most talked-about candidate from the JDU is Nishant Kumar, Nitish Kumar's son and a Kurmi community member. Apart from this, through leaders like Shravan Kumar, Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, Madan Sahni and Bulo Mandal, JDU has tried to woo different social classes. The party has tried to give a strong message by giving place to Ashok Chaudhary, Sunil Kumar and Ratnesh Sada from the Dalit community.
Allies Also Get Representation
Sanjay Paswan and Sanjay Singh from the LJP (Ram Vilas) have been appointed ministers, while Santosh Manjhi from the HAM party has been included in the cabinet. Deepak Prakash has been appointed minister from the RLM, sending a message to the allies about sharing power.
Now everyone's eyes are on how much impact this social balance will have on the upcoming elections.
