Rajnikanta Sinha Giriyak (Nalanda). A couple died while 10 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in came into contact with an 11,000 volt electric line in Bihar's Nalanda district.
The incident took place near the Shambhu Sharan Temple in the Giriyak police station area on Wednesday. According to eyewitnesses, all the labourers travelling in the bus were returning to their village, Ghoshrava, after working in the brick kiln of Chautara village located in Narkatiaganj block of Bettiah.
This accident happened near the Shambhu Sharan temple on the Pavapuri-Ghoshrava main road, just two kilometres away from their village.
As per information, the 11,000-volt high-tension power line passing over the road was hanging very low. It came into contact with the handle of a bicycle placed on the roof of the bus. A strong current ran through the entire bus, and within moments, there was screaming and shouting.
This sudden accident caused chaos on the bus. Many passengers jumped from the moving bus to save their lives, resulting in serious injuries. Several people trapped inside were electrocuted and suffered burn injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Rudal Manjhi (50) and his wife, Phoolo Devi (45). The couple were inside the bus and was electrocuted. They died on the spot. The incident caused panic among the passengers.
The deceased couple left behind a full family of seven children, four sons and three daughters. Two of the daughters are married.
Upon receiving news of the incident, chaos erupted in Ghoshrava village. A mournful silence descended upon the entire area, and the family members were inconsolable.
Injured rushed to hospital
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Pavapuri police station arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. With the help of local residents, the injured were pulled from the bus.
All the injured were immediately admitted to Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Pavapuri, where several remain in critical condition. A team of doctors is continuing to treat them.
Villagers allege negligence by the electricity department
Following the accident, villagers seemed deeply angered, accusing the electricity department of negligence. They alleged the high-tension wire had been hanging low for a long time and that complaints had been made several times, but no action was taken.
Villagers added that if the wire had been repaired in time, this tragic accident could have been avoided. Following the incident, people have demanded action against the officials responsible.
