Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary-led Cabinet on Monday approved 25 key proposals related to the state's development and public welfare. Among major decisions was the clearance of approximately Rs 43 crore outstanding payments to farmers associated with Sasamusa Sugar Works.

The decision will not only provide relief to sugarcane farmers but also pave the way for restarting the sugar mill.

The Bihar Cabinet also approved the 'Development India - Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural)', which will be implemented in the state from July 1, 2026 and will promote rural employment.

Major focus on irrigation and flood management

An amount of Rs 251.55 crore was approved for the Dakranala Pump Canal Scheme, which will strengthen the irrigation system. A huge amount has also been approved for flood control and river management, which will accelerate safety works in 2026-27.

Rs 196.89 crore was approved for the Sindhwarani Reservoir Scheme, which will improve canal and irrigation capacity.

Expansion of urban infrastructure

Sewerage and water supply projects have been approved in Biharsharif, Hajipur, Begusarai and Saharsa. The cost of these projects ranges between Rs 100 crore and Rs 375 crore.

These schemes will promote sanitation, drinking water and environmental improvement in cities and strengthen civic amenities.

Major decisions in the field of education and technology

The construction of a research park and new hostels has been approved at IIT Patna. These projects will be led by IIT Patna, providing a new direction to higher education and research.

Along with this, a budget was also approved for e-Procurement 2.0 and the BIHAR SNA-SPARSH system, which will make government payments and the tender process more transparent.

Social security and schemes for farmers

More than Rs 3,662 crore has been approved as advance for May, June and July 2026 under the Social Security Pension Scheme, ensuring timely payments to lakhs of beneficiaries.

A decision has also been taken to re-implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana from 2026-27, which will provide protection to farmers against crop loss.

Administrative reforms and investment promotion

Amendments to the Commercial Tax Department, e-Stamp Rules and Private Nursing Home Rules have been approved, which will make the administrative system simple and effective.

Along with this, it has been decided to speed up the industrial investment process by giving more powers to the Investment Promotion Board, due to which the investment environment in Bihar is expected to improve.
