The newly elected Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, won the vote of confidence in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Friday. The floor test became necessary after he took the oath as Chief Minister following the resignation of Nitish Kumar.

CM Chaudhary received the confidence of the 243-strong House through a voice vote, which was expected due to the NDA’s significant majority in the Assembly. The NDA has a total of 201 MLAs in the House, which exceeds the 122 votes required to secure a majority.

Speaker of the Assembly, Dr Prem Kumar, officially recognised Chaudhary and announced that the confidence motion had passed. Chaudhary was sworn in as Chief Minister on April 15, nine days later than he had claimed to have a majority in the House.

During the debate, he launched a sharp attack on Tejashwi Yadav and also referred to the tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav, stating that had he not faced oppression, he would have reached this position much earlier.

“Without the support of Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad would not have become chief minister,” Chaudhary said.

Reacting to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's allegations of being selected to replace an elected chief minister, Samrat said, "Power is not a fiefdom of anybody. You should come out of this. I have become the chief minister with the blessings of the people and our leaders."

Speaking about Nitish Kumar’s legacy, Chaudhary said the government would continue working towards making Bihar a developed state by following his principles. He added that Nitish Kumar had wanted him to become Chief Minister.

He also stressed that the government would not compromise on the “3Cs”: crime, communalism, and corruption. During the confidence motion debate, Chaudhary said the NDA government remains committed to women’s safety, farmers’ welfare, and good governance, while maintaining a firm stand against crime, communalism, and corruption.

Opposition leader Tejasswi Prasad Yadav extended his support to the government, though in a sarcastic tone.

"This is the fifth government in the state in five years. This is a miracle that cannot be seen in any other state. It is a surprise that this has happened despite the 20-year rule of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). An elected chief minister ( Nitish Kumar) has been replaced by a selected chief minister (Samrat)," Tejashwi said.
