Bengal Polls: With just a few days remaining in the West Bengal Assembly election, all the leading parties have intensified their campaigns. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a sharp attack on the top brass of BJP by alleging that the Bengalis were being targeted in the NDA-governed states. She reiterated that the BJP will impose restrictions on the food habits of the Bengalis if elected to power. However, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the TMC is misleading the voters, adding that the people want a change in the poll-bound state.
While addressing a crowd in Swarupnagar, the chief minister asserted that the BJP should first ensure safety of Bengalis in the NDA ruling states before talking about building "Sonar Bangla". She further raised concern over the large scale deletions of voters, adding that the saffron party was trying to snatch the rights of Bengalis. Banerjee also stated that along with the assembly election, this is also a battle to save the democracy.
However, the BJP labelled the allegations made by the chief minister "baseless" and "imaginary", adding that she is spreading lies for the political gains. Home Minister Shah alleged that the people of Bengal are seeking a change this time. "People gave Mamata Didi a mandate with great hope, but today they are seeking change from the heart," Shah told the reporters.
"The people are frightened and disillusioned. The people want change from the heart. Today we are working as the main opposition party in the Bengal Assembly," the home minister added. The voting in Bengal will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29, and the results will be announced on May 4.
While the TMC is contesting to form a government in Bengal for the fourth time in a row, the BJP will try to establish their government for the first time in the eastern state.
