Bengal Polls: With just a few days remaining in the West Bengal Assembly election, all the leading parties have intensified their campaigns. One of the most discussed issues during the campaign is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the poll-bound state. While the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the Election Commission of helping the BJP, the poll body has asserted that the revision process was conducted as per the constitution.
Will SIR Affect The Bengal Polls?
As per the final data shared by the poll body, the voters deleted from 15 per cent of the 293 constituencies was more than the winning margin in those seats in the last assembly election. The Election Commission has informed that 44 seats have witnessed a higher deletion of voters at the adjudication phase compared to the winning margin in the 2021 assembly polls.

While 24 out of these 44 seats belonged to the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, the remaining seats were won by the BJP, showing that both the leading parties are expected to witness different results this time. As per the poll body, five seats belonged to each Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, and Nadia districts. While four such seats are in North 24 Parganas and Paschim Medinipur, three seats belonged to Cooch Behar, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Murshidabad districts.
Apart from this, two seats belonged each to Purba Medinipur and Howrah districts. Earlier in 2021 polls, the ruling party registered victory in Samserganj in the Murshidabad district by 26,111 votes; however, the scenario might change this time as 74,775 voters have been deleted from the constituency.
While the BJP won in the Purulia constituency of the Balarampur district by 273 in the 2021 polls, the result could be different in 2026 as over 1,000 voters have been deleted in the revision process. The voting in Bengal will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29, and the results will be announced on May 4.
