Bengal Poll Violence: Several people were injured after unidentified people hurled crude bomb at the crowd in Nowda, Murshidabad's district on Wednesday night ahead of West Bengal election phase 1, reported news agency PTI

"I had stepped out yesterday to offer Namaz at around 8 pm... I was standing... two boys came and threw a bomb near my foot. Humayun Kabir's party workers have done this," said a victim as quoted by news agency ANI.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. The number of casualties, if any, has not yet been confirmed officially. Security forces immediately rushed to the scene. An investigation into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, voting was disrupted on Thursday in Balua Chara High School booth in Mothabari constituency as the sector officer absconded amid a reported malfunction in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

A major political storm had erupted in West Bengal after seven judicial officers, including three women, were gheraoed in Malda district on April 1.

The voting in Bengal is being held on 152 out of the total 294 constituencies across 16 districts, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, and Birbhum.

There are 1,478 candidates in the fray and over 3 crore voters will exercise their rights between 7 AM and 6 PM. As per the Election Commission, 7,384 out of the 44,000 polling booths have been flagged as 'super-sensitive' or 'critical'.
