Pawan Khera vs Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam police on Tuesday reached Congress leader Pawan Khera's Delhi home for questioning over his allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, who filed an FIR against Khera on Monday. However, Pawan Khera was not found at his home.
Attacking Pawan Khera, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Congress leader has run away from Guwahati and even from his home in Delhi. Sarma further alleged that Khera has been hiding in Hyderabad to "evade police action for his lies."
"He ran away from Guwahati yesterday. I have come to know through the media that the police have gone to his residence in Delhi, but he has run away to Hyderabad. The law will take its own course," Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
"Before levelling an allegation, he should have asked the foreign minister. Kharge ji has aged, yet he speaks like a madman. Assam Police can find and bring people from 'pataal' as well. I suspect Rahul Gandhi has given him these documents. So this case will extend to Rahul Gandhi. Do not try to scare us. This is Assam, and we have fought against Islamic invasion 17 times," Sarma added.
Following the completion of searches at Pawan Khera's residence in the national capital, Assam Police DCP Debajit Nath said, "We have searched his house. We can't give more details."
'Witch-Hunt': Congress Slams Himanta Biswa Sarma Over Raids
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticised the searches carried out by the Assam Police at Pawan Khera's Delhi residence, stating that the "witch hunt" stands as proof that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is "facing imminent defeat".
"The deployment of a full army of police officials to arrest my colleague Pawan Khera for asking basic questions in the public interest proves that the Assam CM is disturbed, desperate, and rattled. This is not due process but instead a witch hunt, a bully using state machinery to muzzle and silence the voice of the Opposition that is exposing his many black deeds. Those who intimidate are the ones who are afraid and have much to hide. It also proves that the CM is facing imminent defeat," Jairam Ramesh said.

Congress' Allegations Against Riniki Bhuyan Sharma:
Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday levelled serious allegations against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, accusing her of possessing passports of three countries, including Egypt, UAE and Antigua and Barbuda. Khera further alleged that Rinikiya Bhuyan has two properties registered in her name in Dubai and also owns a company based in Wyoming, USA.
Showing documents to back his allegations, Khera said, "Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the wife of the Assam Chief Minister, holds three passports. She has a UAE Passport, which was issued on March 14, 2022 and expires on March 13, 2027. The second passport in her name is from Antigua and Barbuda, which was issued from August 26, 2021, and expires on August 25, 2031."

Khera also alleged that the third passport in her name is from Egypt, which was issued on February 13, 2022 and expires on February 12, 2029. "Himanta Biswa Sarma's entire politics is predicated on hatred against Muslims; yet, his wife holds passports from two Muslim countries? Are they making preparations to flee the country in the event of an electoral defeat?" Khera said.
Khera further alleged that Sarma's wife owns two properties in Dubai and asked why Himanta Biswa Sarma failed to disclose these assets in his election affidavit. "Many people own properties abroad; however, when a spouse contests an election, these assets must be disclosed in their affidavit. Yet, there is no mention whatsoever of these two Dubai properties in Himanta Biswa Sarma's affidavit," Khera said.
Khera also alleged that Sarma's wife owns a company based in Wyoming, USA. The list of members for this company includes the names of the couple and their son, as he showed in the press conference. "Himanta Biswa Sarma has stashed his money in Wyoming by setting up shell companies," he alleged.
Riniki Bhuyan, Himanta Biswa Reject Congress' Claims:
Reacting to the allegations against his wife, Himanta Biswa Sarma categorically rejected the claims, terming them baseless and vowing to take legal action against Congress leaders. Sarma said that such desperate and baseless attacks only expose the Congress' sinking ground. "These are malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated lies aimed at misleading the people of Assam," he said.
He alleged that "documents being circulated show multiple glaring inconsistencies, suggesting a crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation". Sarma said his wife and he will be filing both criminal and civil defamation cases within the next 48 hours against Khera for making "reckless and defamatory statements".
Rejecting Khera's claims, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma said she will take legal action against him. "I expected a spokesperson of a national party to exercise basic due diligence, rather than circulate poorly fabricated images of imaginary passports and documents. I will now be letting the law take over. Criminal charges are being initiated. We can continue this in court," she said on X.
