Assam Election Key Seats: The Election Commission of India is set to hold the high-stakes elections to the 126-member Assam assembly on Thursday, with most seats slated to witness a direct contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. The BJP is eyeing a third straight term, while the grand old party is looking to wrest the state, from where it was ousted in 2016.
A total of 722 candidates, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, and AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, are in the fray.

Polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm across 31,490 polling stations in 35 districts. A total of 2.50 crore people, including 1.25 crore women and 318 from the third gender, are eligible to vote.
These Are The Key Constituencies In Assam Elections:
Sibsagar Seat: The Sibsagar constituency is witnessing a direct fight between activist and incumbent MLA Akhil Gogoi and BJP candidate Kushal Dowarij. However, AGP leader Prodip Hazarika is also in the contest. In 2021 polls, Akhil Gogoi won the seat as an Independent candidate from jail.
Jorhat Seat: Jorhat is the most interesting seat as Assam Congress president and CM face Gaurav Gogoi has made a debut in the state politics. He is facing a challenge from the BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami. In the 2021 Assam Assembly Elections, BJP leader Goswami won the seat.
Jalukbari Constituency: The Jalukbari Assembly seat, represented by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is one of the state's most high-profile seats. Sarma has won the Jalukbari constituency five consecutive times - 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021 elections. He is currently seeking a sixth consecutive term. Congress fielded Bidisha Neog against the chief minister.
Bokahat Constituency: The Bokahat seat, located in Golaghat district, is seeing a contest between AGP leader Atul Bora and Raijor Dal leader Hari Prasad Saikia.
Binnakandi constituency: The Binnakandi seat, which falls under the Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituency, is witnessing a triangular contest - AGP vs AJP vs AIUDF. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal, who is contesting from this seat, is facing a challenge from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Sahabuddin Mazumdar and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Rejaul Karim Chowdhury.
Haflong Constituency: Haflong, a reserved seat for a Scheduled Tribe (ST), is represented by BJP's Nandita Garlosa, who defeated Congress' Nirmal Langthasa in the 2021 polls. This election, the BJP had to change its candidate as Garlosa changed her sides before the election. The BJP fielded Rupali Langthasa against Congress leader Garlosa.
Dispur Constituency: Dispur seat is one of the most high-profile as it is home to the Assam Secretariat and key administrative establishments. BJP pitted Pradyut Bordoloi against Congress' Mira Borthakur Goswami.
