Assam recorded 75.91 per cent voter turnout till 3 pm in the 2026 assembly election.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that people will give a decisive mandate for the development of Assam. “The decision we take today will decide the route and fate of Assam for the next five years. I think people are going to give a decisive mandate for the development of Assam,” he said after casting his vote.

The votes for 126 assembly seats in Assam will be counted on May 4.

AJP candidate Rajen Gohain casted his vote in Nagaon. Polling is underway for 126 assembly seats in Assam.

Singer Papon casted his vote in Guwahati. He appealed the youth to come out and cast their votes. "I urge the youth to come out and cast their vote. The weather is great and wonderful arrangements have been made. We must vote because every vote counts," Papon said.

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal casted his vote in Dhekiajuli. Speaking to ANI after casting his vote, Singhal said, “I was the first one to cast my vote at my booth. The people of Assam are going to give a very important verdict today. This will be historic. The way people have supported us, I think this election will be for the development of Assam. People want a safe and secure Assam. We are getting a huge number of votes in the state... BJP will get more than 75-80 seats and with the alliance partners, we may cross 100 seats.”

AIUDF chief and candidate from Binnakandi seat, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal casted his vote at a polling station in Hojai.

 59.63 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 1pm in Assam.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife Riniki Bhuyan casted her vote in Guwahati. Speaking to ANI, Riniki said, "It is a 100% sweep."

According to news agency PTI, a poll official was found dead in Sonitpur district on Thursday amid assembly elections in Assam. Officials said that Deben Horo (45) was deputed as the second polling officer in the Naduar constituency.

Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi casted his vote for Assam Assembly election. Speaking to PTi after casting his vote, Gogoi said, "This is the happiest moment for my life. This is the first time that I have cast my vote for myself. Last time, I contested election from Sivasagar but I was in jail."

Late singer Zubeen Garg's wife Garima Saikia arrived to cast her vote in Dispur. She said, "I got discharged from the hospital yesterday. Earlier, I used to go to vote along with Zubeen. It is our duty to cast a vote. So, I am physically unwell, but I have come here to vote."

Assam Minister and BJP candidate from Jagiroad Assembly constituency, Pijush Hazarika appealed to voters on Thursday. He urged them to come forward to vote for development.

"The people of Assam are against the Bangladeshis, invaders, and illegal migrants, and that is why Congress will not get votes... This is Congress's old rule of distributing money and liquor to influence people... More people are going to resign from the Congress party. Pawan Khera is a useless person. His claims turned out to be false. There were spelling errors. One spelling was Sharma, and the other was Sarma... When we questioned him, he left Assam and ran away. If his allegations were true, he should have stayed in Assam," Hazarika said.

38.92 per cent voter turout was recorded till 11 am in Assam.

Agriculture Minister and AGP-NDA candidate Atul Bora casted his vote in Bokakhat. He appealed to people to exercise their democratic right.

After casting his vote for Assam Assembly elections, Union Minister and BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Together with our allies we will win around 100 seats.”

After offering prayers at Kamakhya Temple, Assam CM and candidate from Jalukbari, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "It is polling day today in Assam. I had the fortune to have a darshan of Maa Kamakhya on the polling day. May Assam flourish and people of the state advance, I prayed this to Maa."

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi casted his vote at a polling booth set up at DCB Girls High School, Jorhat. He said, "There is a wave of enthusiasm among people. We are confident that we will preserve Assam's ideals and democratic values to build a New Assam."

Congress leader Durlabh Chamua said that voting is currently underway and expressed strong confidence in his party’s chances. "Polling is going on... Gaurav Gogoi will be the CM. As you can see in our constituency, there is a strong wave in favour of the Congress," Chamua said.,

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that "change is palpable" in Assam in the  2026 Assembly election. In a post on X, appealing to voters, Kharge said, “The change is palpable in Assam in this 2026 Assembly election. A specially abled man arrived to cast his vote at Sarumotoria LP School Polling Station in Dispur, Assam.

BJP candidate from Dispur assembly constituency, Pradyut Bordoloi casted his vote on Thursday. He said, "I have just cast my vote. I couldn't transfer my voting rights when I decided to file my nomination as a BJP candidate from Dispur. Since it did not get transferred, I have just cast my vote here now. I am heading back to Dispur."

Over 2.5 crore voters are set to cast their votes in high-stakes Assam assembly elections.

A total of 722 candidates are in the fray for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, including prominent leaders as well as many Independents. The Congress has fielded the highest number of candidates at 99, followed by the BJP with 90. Among other parties, the AIUDF has 30 candidates, while NDA allies Asom Gana Parishad (aAGP) and Bodoland People's Front are contesting 26 and 11 seats respectively.

Voting for 126 assembly seats in Assam is being held in single phase.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the people of Assam to turn out in large numbers as polling for the 2026 Assembly elections begins. In a message shared on X, he expressed hope that youth and women voters, in particular, would participate with enthusiasm, turning the electoral process into a true celebration of democracy and civic responsibility.
