Tamil Nadu News: The suspense over the next move of BJP leader K Annamalai continues as the question: Will he quit the saffron party and form a new political outfit? remained unanswered. Following the debacle in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, rumours are doing the rounds that Annamalai is feeling sidelined.
However, the BJP has categorically dismissed these speculations. The party claimed that complete unity remains intact within the Tamil Nadu unit and that former state president Annamalai has neither resigned nor is planning to form a new political party.

What Tamil Nadu BJP Said
Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran categorically said Annamalai is not planning to launch a "mass movement" or form a new party. He also clarified his visit to Delhi, saying Annamalai went to the national capital to discuss fertiliser-related issues with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. During the visit, he also met with BJP general secretaries. Nagendran dismissed reports of any rift with Annamalai as completely false.

On the other hand, sources close to Annamalai offer conflicting information, saying Annamalai is fully prepared to break away from the BJP and pursue an independent political path. He is scheduled to announce his plans on June 5. Sources indicate that Annamalai is launching a mass movement aimed at identifying, training, and grooming young leaders across Tamil Nadu. This movement may later be transformed into a political party.
What Has Upset Annamalai?
Several reasons are being cited for Annamalai's dissatisfaction, including removal form the post of state BJP president. He opposed the BJP's decision to re-establish its alliance with the AIADMK. During his padayatra, he faced opposition from some BJP and AIADMK leaders. The denial of a major party position and his decision not to contest the 2026 assembly elections also fueled speculation. Sources claim that he was not assured of a national role and even declined the offer of a Rajya Sabha seat.
