  1. Annamalai: No need to publicly display religion.

  3. Young voters crucial for 2031 regime change.

Tamil Nadu: Former Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai on Sunday stated that there is 'no need to highlight and display religion every time.' Speaking at his foundation's first anti-drug conference in Pollachi, Annamalai described himself as a proud nationalist, Indian, and Hindu.

However, Annamalai stated that he 'locks up' his caste and religion inside his home whenever he steps out, news agency PTI reported.

'True Hindu' Treats Everyone Equally

He further said a 'true Hindu' treats everyone equally and does not say that one is superior and another is inferior. He said, "He will say that everyone must go together in a straight line. That is my Hindu philosophy."

The address took place during the 'Drug-Free Pollachi Awareness Conference', organised by his foundation, 'We the Leaders', as part of the 'Drug-Free Tamil Nadu' campaign.

'We The Leaders' To Envolve Into Political Party

This marks the first major conference organised by 'We The Leaders' since its launch by Annamalai. After resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last month, Annamalai announced a new political movement, which he said would later evolve into a party that would contest the next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Reaffirming this vision during his Pollachi address, he confirmed that 'We The Leaders' is set to transform into a political party and said the transition would take place at an 'appropriate time'.

The Power Of Gen Z

Reflecting on the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Annamalai said that voters below 39 years of age played a significant role in bringing the regime change. That election saw the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK, which was floated in 2024, emerge victorious as the single largest party.

Annamalai said that young voters would bring a similar 'very big regime change' in the upcoming 2031 Assembly elections. He clarified that he has not invited anyone to join his 'We the Leaders' movement, emphasising that participation should be entirely voluntary based on the work done.

Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, "There are 17% per cent women in our movement. 14% are aged 18 to 25, and 54% are under the age of 35. There will be a big change in the 2031 elections. Gen Z made a change in the 2026 election, and they will make another change in 2031."
