An Air India flight from Bengaluru declared a full emergency while landing at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi over a suspected engine fire.
The incident took place at around 9:30 PM on Thursday. The flight, however, landed safely at the airport.
AI 2802 flight, with 171 passengers, landed on runway 29R at the IGI Airport and was being towed away.
The airline issued a statement about the incident saying that during the final approach to Delhi, the cockpit crew received a fire warning from one of the engines. The alert was later confirmed to be true, the statement read.
It added that crew followed all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safely landed the aircraft at Delhi's IGI. All the passengers and crew were safe and disembarked normally.
"Air India is immediately initiating a full investigation into the cause of the incident in coordination with the relevant regulatory authorities. We are committed to sharing further verified information as soon as it becomes available. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority," it further said.

According to sources cited by Jagran.com, a possible engine malfunction or fire was detected during the flight. The pilot immediately took precautionary measures, contacted air traffic control, and the plane landed safely in Delhi.
Air India's Delhi-Bengaluru flight suffers tailstrike
Earlier, Air India flight AI2651 from Delhi to Bengaluru suffered a tailstrike on Thursday during landing, with the tail section of the aircraft touching the ground.
However, the plane landed safely and all passengers and crew are safe. There were 181 passengers on board. A tailstrike occurs when the tail of an aircraft touches the ground during takeoff or landing.
Return flight cancelled
Following the incident, return flight AI2652 from Bengaluru to Delhi was cancelled. Air India said alternative arrangements were being made to accommodate the affected passengers. The aircraft was grounded for a detailed inspection. The spokesperson said the incident would be investigated according to established procedures in coordination with regulatory authorities.
