Ahmedabad Plane Crash:One year after London-bound Air India Flight 171 crashed in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, killing all 241 people on board and 19 on the ground, the families of the victims are still waiting for answers. As questions mount over the exact cause of the tragedy and the delay of the final investigation report, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Friday issued an interim statement.
What AAIB Said?
In a statement, the AAIB stated that over the past year, the investigation team has made 'significant progress' in thoroughly analysing the aircraft's technical systems, including the flight data recorders. The agency said that it is utilising scientific methods and maintaining complete impartiality to determine the exact cause of the accident.
How Far Has The Investigation Into Air India Plane Crash Reached?
The AAIB stated that the investigation team has meticulously examined every aspect of the accident, including the aircraft's systems, engine components, and past maintenance records. Additionally, data from the flight recorder (black box) had also been thoroughly analysed.
The probe body claimed that the investigation has made 'significant progress' due to help from recognised representatives, technical advisors, and aviation experts from both India and abroad.
What's Next And How Long Will It Take?
The AAIB stated that a comprehensive analysis is currently underway to collate all evidence and investigative findings gathered over the past year. The agency added that, if required, further technical and specialised investigations will be conducted in specific areas to ensure the final conclusions are backed by verified evidence and rigorous scientific evidence.
AAIB Reiterates Commitment To Safety, Transparency
The AAIB further reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the investigation with honesty, transparency, and strict adherence to regulations. The bureau emphasised that the purpose of the investigation is to enhance aviation safety and not to apportion blame or liability.
