If you have grooved on Tip Tip Barsa Paani, you must have watched the iconic 90s movie Mohra. Starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Raveena Tandon, Mohra is all set for a re-release on November 6, 2026.

Directed by Rajiv Rai, Mohra was originally released 32 years ago on July 1, 1994. Now in a 4K-remastered version, Mohra returns with its outstanding album and a story built around revenge, betrayal and a calculated game of deception.

The original version was a blockbuster in 1994, ranking second in Box Office India’s list of top India distributor shares that year, behind Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

What Is The Story Of Mohra?

Mohra follows Vishal Agnihotri, played by Suniel Shetty. His contentment and peaceful life are disrupted when a group of criminal goons brutally gang-rape his sister-in-law and force his wife to take her life.

But due to lack of evidence, the court does not punish the culprits. As the culprits walk free, Vishal takes the law into his own hands and murders them, leading to a life sentence.

Then the movie introduces journalist Roma Singh, played by Raveena Tandon. She believes that Vishal was wronged by the legal system and decides to help him escape from prison.

Vishal soon encounters Mr Jindal, played by Naseeruddin Shah, who is a seemingly sweet, wealthy newspaper owner but is blind.

Jindal secretly recruits Vishal as a hitman to eliminate rival drug lords.

But an honest police officer, Amar Saxena, who was investigating the case, discovers a shocking truth. He finds that Mr Jindal is not actually blind, and he was the one behind killing his father and the crimes against Vishal.

In the showdown, Vishal takes a bullet meant for Amar and dies. But Jindal is also ultimately defeated and killed in the climax.

Mohra Re-Releasing On November 6: What Made The 1994 Movie A Blockbuster

Written and directed by Rajiv Rai, Mohra’s appeal lay in characters’ interests colliding. Vishal’s desire for justice, Amar’s investigation and Jindal’s manipulation gave the action sequences a narrative purpose beyond spectacle.

The cast of Mohar brought three famous leads working together for one movie. Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad and Sadashiv Amrapurkar brought their star fandom with them.

Moreover, the commercial box office gave a clear picture. Box Office India classified Mohra as a blockbuster in its 1994 trade records. It also established itself as one of the decade’s defining mainstream action thrillers.

The Music Appeal Of Mohra: Tip Tip Barsa Pani and Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast

The soundtrack, composed by Viju Shah, remains central to Mohra’s legacy. Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast, sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy, became one of the film’s signature dance numbers.

Tip Tip Barsa Paani, featuring Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, also has enjoyed an especially long afterlife.

In a 2021 interview with The Times of India, Rajiv Rai said, “‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ is a bigger hit today than it was back then.” He added that ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ had been the bigger hit at the time of the film’s original release.

Viju Shah has also shared how the songs came together. In a 2023 interview with Bollywood Hungama, he recalled that lyricist Anand Bakshi initially felt the tune for ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani’ was too long.

After several days of discussion, Bakshi found the phrase that fitted the composition. Shah recalled that the song was finalised within 15 to 20 minutes after the lyricist came up with the line.

The composer also explained the making of ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’. He said that the idea was to capture how a person feels when they are mast, or carefree and exhilarated.

The album also included ‘Na Kajare Ki Dhar’, ‘Subah Se Lekar’ and ‘Kaash Kahin Aisa Hota’. The wide range of dance, romantic and melodic tracks helped make the movie a blockbuster album.

Iconic Dialogues, Dramatic Twists And A Changing Audience

Mohra was released in an era of Hindi cinema where everything was deliberately dramatised. The dialogue delivery, revelations, confrontations and conflicts contributed to the film’s mass appeal.

The screenplay and dialogues of Mohar were credited to Shabbir Boxwala, Rajiv Rai and Dilip Shukla.

Also, the central idea of a person being manipulated into serving someone else’s agenda remains familiar to modern crime thrillers. The movie also uses the tension between apparent justice and hidden motives to keep its characters from being entirely what they seem.
