Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actor R Madhavan recently spoke about his 2008 Tamil romantic drama Vaazhthugal as a movie he regrets making. In a conversation with YouTuber Madan Gowri, Madhavan revealed that he didn't involve himself enough in the filmmaking process and should have been more assertive about the project.

“I think, with all due respect, it would be Vaazhthugal. I didn’t pay enough attention to the film. I should have put my foot down and been more involved in the process,” Madhavan said during the conversation.

R Madhavan On Why He Regrets Doing Vaazhthugal

R Madhavan explained that he had expected the combination of an established director and a capable team to deliver a successful film. That assumption, he acknowledged, proved misplaced.

The actor said that the team had believed that fulfilling its responsibilities would be enough to make the project a hit.

“We assumed that if we did everything that was expected of us, the film would be a hit. But despite our efforts, it failed,” Madhavan revealed.

He then explained that he should have been more involved in the project and taken a more active role in the process. He regrets not voicing his concerns about the movie and solely relying on the director and the team to make the project a hit.

What Was Vaazhthugal About?

Directed by Seeman and produced by T Siva, Vaazhthugal featured Madhavan opposite Bhavana, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Madhavan played Kathiravan, who is a socially conscious entrepreneur. He eventually falls in love with Kayalvizhi, played by Bhavana, after watching her speak about family values in a television interview.

Kayalvizhi belongs to a conservative family opposed to love marriages. To win their approval, Kathiravan enters her household disguised as an interior contractor. Complications arise when his real identity comes to light.

The romantic family drama failed to make the expected impact at the box office.

How Vaazhthugal Affected Madhavan and Seeman's Next Movie

After Vaazhthugal, Madhavan and Seeman had another project lined up, titled Pagalavan. However, the project did not materialise following Vaazhthugal's disappointing performance.

Later, Madhavan continued working across Hindi and different industries. He appeared in Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan in 2008, followed by Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots in 2009 and Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu in 2011.

He returned to Tamil cinema with N Lingusamy's action comedy Vettai in 2012.

R Madhavan Also Regrets Neglecting His Costumes and Hair

In the same conversation with Madan Gowri, Madhavan reflected on his approach to personal styling during his early career.

“I didn't pay enough attention to my costumes and hair during the early stages of my career. I should have been more professional,” he said.

The actor attributed part of his earlier approach to his middle-class upbringing, explaining that he had not thought about having people around him to manage his costumes and hairstyling.
