Pranit More Show Controversy: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has officially intervened following an incident during a live stand-up comedy show hosted by comedian Pranit More in Gurugram, Haryana. The Mumbai Cyber Police has registered a formal case against Pranit More, alongside audience members Himanshu Jangra and Dr Sejal Pawar. The legal action comes after controversial video clips from the performance went viral on social media, drawing widespread public outrage.

Who Is Himanshi Jangra?

The controversy initially erupted over a crowd-work segment involving 23-year-old web developer Himanshu Jangra. In the viral video, Himanshu Jangra joked about taking a woman out on a date and spending money on a chicken biryani bill. He then suggested that because he had spent that money, he felt entitled to physical intimacy from her. The specific remark that triggered massive national outrage across social media platforms was, "Maine kaha ki Rs 370 lage hain to use to wasool to karunga hi."

Critics heavily condemned the comment, stating that it reduced a woman's dignity and consent to the mere price of a meal. The situation intensified because the comment was not challenged on stage. Instead, the audience laughed, and the comedian engaged with the joke before the clip was published online. Following the backlash, Himanshu Jangra apologised and deactivated his accounts, but he was subsequently dismissed from his job at a Gurugram branding firm.

Who Is Sejal Pawar?

As the online debate grew, a second clip from the exact same comedy show surfaced, bringing Dr Sejal Pawar into the spotlight. Reports indicate that Sejal Pawar is a medical doctor believed to be associated with KEM Hospital in Mumbai. During her on-stage interaction with the comedian, she made casual, humorous remarks regarding how she and her colleagues joked about male anatomical details while working with medical cadavers.

This clip quickly drew severe criticism from social media users, who argued that the comments violated professional medical ethics and showed extreme disrespect to deceased human bodies used for educational purposes.

NCW Summons Pranit More After Controversial Crowd-Work Clips

The NCW has taken independent notice of the situation, expressing deep concern that jokes glorifying sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct are being presented as entertainment. NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police in Haryana to demand a detailed Action Taken Report within seven days. The commission has scheduled an official case hearing for 22 June at 4 PM.

Simultaneously, the Maharashtra Cyber Police registered a case against all three individuals under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act for distributing obscene and objectionable content. Cyber police officials confirmed that the individuals have been summoned for a formal inquiry.

While Pranit More has since issued an apology, stating he should have challenged the offensive comments on stage rather than letting them pass, authorities have issued a fresh advisory reminding digital content creators to remain within legal boundaries.
