The prestigious Padma Awards 2026 ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 25, 2026, where India’s president Droupadi Murmu presented honours to several notable personalities from different fields. Many well-known names from the entertainment industry were recognised this year for their contribution to Indian cinema, music and television. From veteran actors to legendary singers, the award list celebrated artists who have left a lasting impact on audiences across generations.

Dharmendra Honoured With Padma Vibhushan, Wife Hema Malini Recieved Award

Veteran late actor Dharmendra was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously), one of India’s highest civilian awards, for his exceptional contribution to Indian cinema over several decades. His wife and veteran actress Hema Malini recieved his award from president, in which she appeared emotional. Watch video;

Stars Who Got Padma Bhushan 2026 Award

Under the Padma Bhushan category, Malayalam superstar Mammootty received recognition for his remarkable work in Indian films. 

Singer Alka Yagnik was also awarded with Padma Bhushan for her long and successful journey in playback singing and Indian music.

Padma Shri 2026 Winners From Film Industry

Actor and filmmaker R. Madhavan received the Padma Shri for his contribution as an actor, writer and director. 

Veteran actor Satish Shah was honoured posthumously for his memorable work in comedy, theatre and cinema. 

Bengali cinema star Prosenjit Chatterjee also received the Padma Shri for his decades-long contribution to regional films.

What Do Padma Award Winners Receive?

Started in 1954, the Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours. The awards are divided into three categories — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

Despite their huge prestige, winners do not receive any cash reward, pension or financial benefit from the government. Instead, recipients are presented with a Padma medal and a Sanad, which is an official certificate signed by the President of India.

The honour is considered highly respected because it recognises outstanding service and contribution in different fields across the country.
