Tumbbad 2 Casting Rumours: The mythology of Hastar is set to return to the big screen, and the latest casting updates for Tumbbad 2 have sent shockwaves through the industry. According to recent reports, Alia Bhatt is the latest A-lister to join the cult-favourite folk horror franchise. While Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are already confirmed for lead roles, Alia Bhatt is reportedly set to make a brief yet significant appearance that could change the course of the sequel's narrative.

This report comes amidst long-standing speculation regarding Kangana Ranaut’s involvement. Earlier this year, trade reports suggested that Kangana Ranaut had been signed for a major role. However, with the production team remaining silent on her participation, many are wondering if Alia has taken over the role or if the film features both powerhouse actresses.

Is Alia Bhatt Replacing Kangana Ranaut In Tumbbad 2?

According to a report by Mid-Day, the filmmakers specifically sought out Alia Bhatt for a character that requires immense presence in a limited amount of time. The report revealed, “The makers needed someone who brings gravitas and intrigue in a short screen time. Alia fit that space."

Despite the short duration of her appearance, the role is described as pivotal to the film's dark, cursed mythology. The sequel, directed by Adesh Prasad, aims to delve deeper into the lore of the deity Hastar and the consequences of greed.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s filming schedule for Tumbbad 2 is reportedly a race against time. She is expected to film her sequences on May 3 at an elaborate set constructed on Madh Island. Immediately after the shoot, she will fly to the United States to attend the Met Gala on May 4. To ensure the production stays on track, the makers have planned a unique solution.

The report added, “The shoot is tightly planned with an elaborate set constructed in Madh Island. Alia will shoot for two days in all. Since she is making an appearance at the Met Gala on May 4, the makers have brought a double for some patch scenes."

Tumbbad 2 is currently scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 3, 2027.

Beyond this project, Alia Bhatt is busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, which is eyeing a January 2027 release.
