Chinese Remake Of Kdrama Death’s Game Announced; Cast And Release Details Revealed

The acclaimed 2023 South Korean fantasy thriller Death’s Game is being adapted into a Chinese feature film. Titled Deadly Loop (also listed as One More Time), the movie will reimagine the hit survival story with a new cast and is targeting a theatrical release in China in 2028.

The upcoming film stars Fan Cheng Cheng as protagonist Zhang Wei and Zhao Jin Mai as the mysterious grim reaper, marking their first on-screen collaboration. Reports also suggest a possible cameo by Jackson Yee, though it has not been officially confirmed.

Filming began in April 2026 across Guangdong, China, with leaked videos already surfacing online. The project has also launched an official Weibo account, while its first poster and official announcement are set to be unveiled on June 4.

The adaptation has already sparked controversy, with fans debating the billing order of Fan Cheng Cheng and Zhao Jin Mai in early promotional materials. Meanwhile, director Zhang Yi Nan’s team has kept production details largely under wraps as work on the film continues.

What is Death's Game about?

The film is based on the popular webtoon by Lee Won Sik and Ggulchan, which was previously adapted into the South Korean series Death’s Game. The story follows a man who, after taking his own life, is punished by Death and forced to live through multiple lifetimes, dying repeatedly in each one.

Starring Seo In Guk and Park So Dam, the series also featured a star-studded cast, including Lee Do Hyun, Lee Jae Wook, Go Yoon Jung, Choi Siwon and Oh Jung Se. It was released in two parts between December 2023 and January 2024.
