Arijit Singh's passion for music was evident from a young age. Born into a musical family in Murshidabad, West Bengal, his singing talent was first recognised when her entered the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. He captivated audiences with his voice, which eventually led to his playback debut with the song Phir Mohabbat from the movie Murder 2 (2011). However, he became an overnight sensation with the Tum Hi Ho song in 2013, establishing himself as one of the most-streamed and followed global artists. As he announces his retirement from playback singing, let's look at the timeline of his musical journey.
Arijit Singh's Rise To Stardom
In 2005, Arijit gained exposure in music by participating in the singing reality show Fame Gurukul, which was judged by legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar, singer Shankar Mahadevan, and late singer KK. Although he finished in sixth position, he left a lasting impact with his performances.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was impressed by Arijit's voice, offered him an opportunity to sing Yoon Shabnami in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Saawariya. His rendition was not used in the film. After his initial struggle in the industry, he made his Bollywood playback singing debut in 2011, with the Murder 2 song Phir Mohabbat. However, it was his super-hit romantic track Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 in 2013 that gave him deserved recognition as a musician. Since then, there has been no looking back for him.

Arijit Singh's Awards And Honours
Arijit became one of Bollywood's most celebrated vocalists. Reportedly, he is the only singer to win the Filmfare Awards five times in a row from 2016 to 2020. Over the years, he has also won two National Awards: First as Best Male Playback Singer for the Padmaavat song Binte Dil and second for Kesariya for Brahmastra. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2025 for his contribution to the Indian entertainment industry.
